In the past few days, we've done pretty well at finding delicious, inexpensive meals in Vilnius. Here are some of the highlights:

1. brown bread
2. cauliflower soup
3. potato pancakes with sour cream
4. really good beer
5. thin pizzas called, oddly, 'tarte flambee'
6. cappucinos
7. salads with amazingly fresh cucumbers and tomatoes
8. vodka
9. crepes and blinys
10. nice cheese and fruit plates

Troublesome things:

1. the Lithuanian national dish--the Zeppelin (seen above). Each one is a pound of quivering, salty potato mash with some unidentifiable pink meat inside. Troubling. Would I try it again? Maybe. It is the national dish after all.

2. Fried bread and cheese dip. Called a 'beer snack' at the cafes, it does not make a good breakfast food. Think of it as a mozzarella stick without the mozzarella, and with twice the grease. Perhaps I should eat it with beer.
